Balanced Billing 6/11/2019

In the past few years, there has been more and more emphasis on the amount of money that patients are paying for some of their medical bills. There are articles abound in major news outlets that will describe the thousands, and sometimes hundreds of thousands that patients are being billed after a trip to the Emergency Department or a stay in the hospital. Dr. Ken hopes to go over what this means so patients have a better understanding of just how a “surprise” bill comes into existence. 02/20/2019. Many state are having difficulty determining how to address continued opiate overdoses and their reversal agents are a common solution. This medication, naloxone, is a life saving medication for people with opiate overdoses. Currently 45 States have a system for physicians, mid level providers and pharmacists to ensure that the prescribing of these medications are done with as much knowledge as possible. Some states are now trying to determine if adding naloxone to the registry. I will be discussing this with the Medical, Military, Public and Municipal Affairs Committee of the South Carolina House of Representatives on Thursday 2/21.
